Game Log

The first game up this week is courtesy of the 2004 Seahawks since both the 1984 and 1994 teams were already done with preseason action. Seattle traveled to their old AFC West foes in San Diego to take on the Chargers.

Matt Hasselbeck found Darrell Jackson for a 4-yard TD pass on the first drive of the game to give Seattle the 7-0 lead. Josh Brown kicked a 52-yard FG later in the 1st Quarter to extend the lead to 10-0. The Seahawks weren’t done as they scored 2 TDs in the 2nd Quarter. First, Anthony Simmons returned a blocked FG 67 yards for a rare special teams TD. Then, Shaun Alexander scored on a 13-yard run but the PAT failed to put the score at 23-0 heading into halftime.

The Superchargers finally broke the seal in the 3rd Quarter when Terrence Kiel returned a Hasselbeck INT 63 yards to make the score 23-7. Josh Brown booted a 50-yard FG to get some of those points back at 26-7. The 4th Quarter featured 2 San Diego TDs, a Brock Edwards 24-yard TD reception from Doug Flutie with a failed 2-point conversion and an 81-yard punt return TD from some UDFA rookie named Wes Welker. That would be the last score of the game, as the Seahawks snuck out of SD with a 26-20 victory.

Seneca Wallace was 18/28 for 190 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT. Shaun Alexander had 15 carries for 62 yards and 1 TD. Koren Robinson led the Seahawks with 5 catches for 59 yards.

In a fun note, the 3 QBs who took snaps for SD in this game were Philip Rivers, Doug Flutie, and Drew Brees…quite the QB room!

Game Log

Just like the 1994 team in last week’s article, we get a double dose of the 2004 Seahawks this week because of the scheduling. It’s another win to revisit, this time against the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings scored the only points of the 1st Quarter on a 22-yard TD pass from Daunte Culpepper to Jermaine Wiggins. Seattle pulled ahead 14-7 in the 2nd Quarter on Trent Dilfer TD passes of 5 yards to Jason Willis and 7 yards to Antoine Burns. Josh Brown kicked a 39-yard FG in the 3rd Quarter to put Seattle up 2 scores at 17-7. MIN scored 14 unanswered points to go ahead 21-17 on 2 Larry Ned TDs, a 1-yard run and a 10-yard catch from Shaun Hill. Josh Brown was nails from 41 yards in the 4th Quarter to pull Seattle within 1 at 21-20. He was true again from 28 yards as time expired, giving Seattle a thrilling 23-21 victory to finish the 2004 preseason at 3-1.

Trent Dilfer was 17/20 for 211 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT. Maurice Morris had 10 carries for 52 yards. Antoine Burns had 5 catches for 96 yards.

Game Log

Remember when the Raiders were in Oakland? Fun times.

Seattle drove down the field for a TD on the first drive for the second week in a row, punctuated by a 25-yard TD pass from Russell Wilson to Luke Willson. The Raiders tied it up at 7-7 on their next drive with a 5-yard TD run by Latavius Murray. Bryan Walters fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Oakland recovered at the SEA 36. They took advantage of that field position and Derek Carr found Mychal Rivera for a 20-yard TD pass to put the Seahawks in a 14-7 deficit. Carr struck again in the 2nd Quarter with an 11-yard TD pass to Denarius Moore to give OAK a 14-point lead at 21-7. Later in the 2nd Quarter, Matt McGloin was picked off by DeShawn Shead who returned it 54 yards for a TD to cut the score to 21-14. The Raiders got those points back on their next drive as Matt McGloin threw a 15-yard TD pass to Brice Butler to put OAK back up 2 scores at 28-14. Seattle struck right back with a 33-yard TD pass from Terrelle Pryor to Phil Bates to put the score at 28-21 at the half.

The only score of the 3rd Quarter was a Giorgio Tavecchio 47-yard FG to make the score 31-21. Steven Hauschka followed that up with a 27-yard FG of his own in the 4th Quarter to pull within a TD at 31-24. Seattle tied it up at 31-31 a few drives later on a 7-yard TD pass from B.J. Daniels to Bryan Walters. Tavecchio hit another 47-yard FG to put OAK up 34-31 with only a few minutes remaining. Seattle had a final chance, but turned the ball over on downs and finished the 2014 preseason at 2-2.

Terrelle Pryor was 11/17 for 134 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT. B.J. Daniels was the leading rusher with 34 yards on 2 carries. He also added 36 yards and a TD on 3 catches. Bryan Walters tried to atone for his special teams gaffe by with 3 catches for 47 yards and 1 TD.
